Golden Tree Project

Shine On SF is a coalition of individuals and organizations that, in partnership with the City and County of San Francisco, are committed to igniting civic pride and creating a clean and cared-for San Francisco.

During the summer of 2021, they had a traveling art installation called "Love Letters to SF" where they set up golden trees around the city, asking people the question "What makes SF Shine"? These golden cards create a unique and dynamic portrait of the things valued about San Francisco and have now been used to build an art installation of giant block letters spelling out the message ‘Shine On SF’.

I was asked to design an activity for visitors to do at the installation sites. I created 2 coloring postcards and a sticker sheet for the events. The project was greatly received by the city and I received special compliments from the head of the Recreation and Parks Department for my work.

Mayor of San Francisco London Breed spoke at the launch event for the project in Union Square.

Process

I prepared a pitch deck for the organizers, drawing from examples of my previous San Francisco-themed work and creating sketches for new illustrations.
